Extending our work with Mothercare's ELC web platform from the integration testing work to the transition into support demonstrates PMC's Total Project Lifecycle proposition. PMC has worked with Mothercare through all aspects of our proposition from consultancy and project management to testing and support.
The Mothercare group of companies is comprised principally of two retail brands - Mothercare and Early Learning Centre, which operate through three distinct channels to market: UK stores, Direct (in-home, in-store internet-based businesses and catalogue mail order) and International.
With it's long-standing relationship with PMC, Mothercare asked PMC to help with setting up it's new e commerce platform, designed to provide the Mothercare group with a platform for continued growth worldwide and improved reliability and scalability.
Vic Watson, Head of Mothercare IT Direct states: "The new platform is part of our continued commitment to improve the quality of service we provide to our customers. We decided to use PMC because of their knowledge and experience of EPoS and their testing expertise. We recognised that PMC could help us ensure the calibre of our system by testing the integration of the new platform with our internal systems."
PMC will provide Mothercare with an overall test management structure, process and procedure. This entails providing on-site testing resources under the control of the PMC Test Manager. The process includes testing all levels of integration with existing and changing Mothercare systems.
Watson continues: "PMC reviewed the systems involved and developed a thorough testing approach. They created test scripts to establish a solid testing structure, and are now in the process of executing those scripts ready for 'go-live'. Test scripts are vital as they establish a framework, which ensures that we test all possible scenarios and occurrences. That covers everything from how people order to stock calculations.
"PMC's testing emulates our live environment to make sure the right stock, from the right warehouse, makes the right delivery. These are mission-critical functions that we must verify before we expose customers to the system. We have to know that our platform can reinforce the promise of our front-end customer-facing web presence. We recognised that PMC could help us back up that promise by certifying the system to ensure customer satisfaction."
PMC's flexible testing approach enabled them to carry out the testing programme at Mothercare's Watford headquarters.
As an extension of the e commerce project, Mothercare has asked PMC to carry out a review of their approach to the web site's support. PMC will use it's comprehensive support skills to carry out a review of the actions Mothercare has taken so far, their approach and verify that against the established Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) best practice standards.
PMC will also provide a short and long-term plan for support and transitioning the system into 'go-live'. This involves creating and managing a series of workshops to help Mothercare carry out the short-term action plan.
